Matt Shechter is a Partner in the firm. Matt was previously an associate of the firm since he was admitted to practice in Colorado in 2009. Matt, originally a native of Nashville, Tennessee, completed his undergraduate work in 2005 and earned a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Matt graduated from the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law in 2009, where he served as a contributor to The Race to the Bottom, a securities law blog.
While working with the firm, Matt has represented employees and union members in a variety of matters before Colorado State and Federal Courts, the Colorado State Personnel Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, in addition to arbitrators and mediators.
Matt has represented individuals or groups alleging Federal and State Law discrimination claims, including Age, Color, Disability, Gender, National Origin, Race, Retaliation and Sexual Harassment claims, wage and hour claims, unemployment appeals, trade secrets claims, just cause arbitrations, employment contract disputes, class actions, severance and a wide variety of other areas. Matt served as co-counsel in Abeyta et al. v. CF&I Steel, an FLSA Collective Action which was resolved for more than $833,000. In 2014 and 2015, Matt was named as a Rising Star by Colorado Super Lawyers.
Even before he graduated from law school, Matt has been working with employees to vindicate their rights. Prior to joining the firm as a law clerk in April 2008, Matt served as an intern to another Colorado employment law firm. Matt served for several years as a legal assistant at national law firms in Washington, D.C. and Denver, primarily working on litigation matters. Matt has also been active in politics, working on Capitol Hill and serving as Deputy Finance Director for a Congressional campaign.
Matt is admitted to practice in Colorado, and before the United States District Court for the District of Colorado and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, and the Colorado Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. Matt is also a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association and Colorado Plaintiffs’ Employment Lawyers Association.
